ASSIGNMENT OF BENEFITS

Assignment of Benefits (AOB)—What does this mean?

AOB language appears in the language of a proposed contract that a repair company asks you to sign.  For example, you may call a company to repair your home (Roof Repair Company) or your car (Windshield Repair Company) and in turn they will ask you to sign a contract that contains an AOB clause.  If you sign this contract you will legally then transfer all the legal rights that you have under your insurance policy over to the repair company.

Why is this bad?  Because you are transferring all of your legal rights to the repair company and as a result they can file a lawsuit against your own insurance company without your consent or knowledge.

Bottom Line: If your property (home or car) suffers any damage do NOT sign anything until all of your questions have been completely answered.

Avoid being a victim.
